Purple Leather Globe Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Pierre Paulin for Artifort
Pierre Paulin globe lounge chair and ottoman by Artifort.
With its elegantly rounded shell on a chromed tubular base, the globe chaise has all the qualities of a comfortable modern chaise.
The globe lounge chair was designed by French designer Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1959/60. Pierre Paulin trained to become a sculptor in Paris but an unfortunate accident left one of his hands partially impaired. He turned to furniture design and designed numerous design classics for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort. Pierre Paulin was able to infuse the free-flowing curves of sculpture into his fabulous chairs. This careful balance of rounded free-flowing design is typical of Pierre Paulin's organic furniture style. The simplicity and gently curved forms of his globe lounge chair makes the design seem tranquil, pure and inviting.
This set comes in original purple leather upholstery in very good vintage condition.
