Italian Glass Mosaic Sphere Table Lamp in the Style of Tao Tesserine, 1960s–1970s
A distinctive vintage Italian table lamp dating from the 1960s–1970s, created in the style of the glass mosaic lamps commonly associated with Tao Tesserine.
The spherical shade is constructed from numerous individually positioned translucent glass elements with a subtle aquamarine-green tint. Each piece is secured with fine metal wire to an internal metal framework, creating the lamp's characteristic sculptural and almost architectural surface.
When illuminated, the layered glass elements refract and diffuse the light, producing an atmospheric play of reflections and shadows on the surrounding surfaces. Even when switched off, the lamp has a strong decorative presence and can be appreciated as a sculptural light object in its own right.
Its expressive construction reflects the Brutalist, Mid-Century Modern and Space Age aesthetics of the period, while the individually assembled glass elements give the lamp a distinctive handcrafted character.
