Sculptural Ribbed Ceramic Table Lamp Hungary 1970s

A distinctive Hungarian sculptural ceramic table lamp, most likely dating from the 1970s.

The tall ceramic body is finished in a deep, glossy dark-brown glaze and modeled with pronounced irregular horizontal ribs running around the entire form. This strongly textured surface creates an attractive interplay of light and shadow and gives the lamp an architectural, sculptural presence.

The combination of expressive ceramic modeling, dark glaze and restrained organic geometry is characteristic of the broader vocabulary of Hungarian modernist applied arts and ceramic design of the period.

Of particular interest is the original period paper label preserved on the underside of the ceramic body. The label contains Hungarian fields including “Munkaszám” (work number), “Cikksz.” (article number) and “Fogy. ár” (retail price), together with a handwritten article number and the electrical specification “Használható Max. 60 W 250 V” (maximum 60 W / 250 V).

Period examples confirm that Kerámia Iparművész KSz. produced ceramic table lamps in Hungary, but the manufacturer and individual designer of the present example have not yet been conclusively identified.

The lamp is currently presented with an off-white textile shade decorated with a delicate blue floral pattern.

Minor traces of age and use, together with aging to the original paper label, are consistent with the vintage character of the piece.
